FAQs:
Do you only work with educators?
I’ve tried meditation, but I can’t get my mind to stop. It doesn’t work for me. What am I doing wrong?
Troubleshooting Tips for Mindfulness Practice:
Focus on an external anchor (sound, trees, the sensation of a coffee mug in your hands)
There is no rule that you need to be still. For trauma survivors, forcing yourself to sit in stillness even though your anxiety is ramping up can re-trigger a freeze or fight/flight response. Perhaps find some small part of your experience where you can actually bring your attention to movement, and use that as an anchor. This could be a sway in the hips, tapping a finger, rocking, or even giving yourself permission to stretch and change position frequently. Practice moving with intention, rather than trying to eliminate movement from the body. See if you can bring attention to any stillness or restfulness beneath the movement.
